Desert Dreams

Not our photo and don't have the source sadly at the moment. Just wanted to share the awesome Bibo's Kitchen we discovered.

It's been awhile since everyone's heard from their friendly neighbourhood Erin, and while I HAD written a pretty awesome blog post in Google docs, for some reason it wouldn't transfer well into this blog and so I abandoned it. Whatever. It was along the same lines as the stuff we have to write about now.

It's been a few weeks since we wrote and truthfully not a significant amount has happened in that time. Christmas, New Year, a house move, and a new addition to the family! We have decided to be foster cat parents! With so many homeless animals in town and a number of absolutely bursting animal shelters we decided to help out and foster a couple of kitties. We have one so far, but are getting another soon. The one we have now is an all black male we named Logan. Logan, as some may know, is the real name of Wolverine from X-Men, and this little guy has claws to rival Wolverine's.

Christmas was somewhat uneventful however we ended up getting invited to a gathering that happened over at one of the dive centres and so we went to that. It was really good and met some new and lovely people, many of whom I'd already seen or spoken to through Facebook groups in Dahab. It was nice to put faces to names.

Overall it's been fairly uneventful here - mainly been working on the freelancing which has been steady for several weeks which is great! We're planning to go out to St Catherine's sometime in the next couple weeks, but first I'm heading out on an overnight trip into the desert with a couple of people to do a mediation/yoga night on the night of the triple whammy full moon/eclipse/supermoon. It should be good :D That's coming up on the 31st, so be sure not to miss it.

We have been getting out every so often with a couple of expats who are also local, mainly just having drinks, going for dinner and the like. Pete wanted to meet more locals, so we have reached out to others in the area about hosting a couchsurfing meetup which is happening tonight (January 20th) and we have a good couple people coming so it should be fun.

We did discover something of a local growing legend in the form of Bibo's Kitchen though. This is a place in the main square by our house which features a VW beetle with no roof, engine or floor sitting outside what looks like a garage but a nicely painted garage. For ages when we first got here we thought it was a bunch of people working on a car. It looked that way for sure and we only realised when someone posted about it on Facebook that it's actually a super quirky burger joint... and they have some of THE BEST burgers ever.

The weather has taken a dip here for the most part and it's no longer warm enough for me to swim, but the winter seems to end in February and will start peaking to low to mid 30's by my birthday in March, so I smell a bunch more snorkeling on the horizon before we head back to the UK in May for a visit. As many people may know, we have decided to stay in Dahab for an undetermined amount of time now and are intending on keeping Logan and possibly the Persian cat we're getting soon too.

The weather is still fairly warm in the daytime but at night it can get really cold. Enough that I have three blankets on my bed AND wear flannels (the blankets aren't thick, haha!). By mid-March though it will get up to the mid thirties and then climb from there - yikes! Hahah! I think I'll be taking up going for a swim everyday! :P

There's a lot of other stuff I could probably talk about but it might not make sense to anyone aside from us, haha! Suffice it to say we're still enjoying Dahab and have settled in well. This was just a quick update for those who have been keeping up to date with our travels and to update the blog with just some basic goings on. Hopefully Pete will manage to write a bit of a better update soon!

For now - ta ta!
